For over 20 years, Ed Polgardy has been involved in creating a wide variety of projects for various television and feature film production companies throughout the US and abroad. In addition to his movie and TV work, Polgardy spends a lot of his time launching new characters and concepts in the comic book marketplace, working hand-in-hand with a number of main-stream publishers who specialize in graphic storytelling. Publishing Early in his career, Polgardy co-created and wrote the internationally-acclaimed comic book series "From the Darkness" for Malibu Graphics and "From the Darkness: Blood Vows" for Cry for Dawn Publications. "Darkness" was a huge hit and was voted one of the top 10 vampire comics of all time by the French comics magazine "Scarce". Supplementing his fiction output with work in trade publications, Polgardy co-created and edited "Comic Book Week" and "Comic Talk" in 1992 for Great Eastern Publishing. Then in 1993, Polgardy accepted the Senior Editor position at Jim Shooter's Defiant Comics, where he helped develop and edit some of the top books in Defiant's line, including "The Good Guys" and "Dark Dominion" (which was penciled by Spiderman co-creator Steve Ditko). Between 1994 and 1997, Polgardy was Editor-in-Chief at BIG Entertainment, where he was instrumental in the development and marketing of numerous high-profile intellectual properties that were initially launched as comic books. Working with celebrity "concept" creators Mickey Spillane, Leonard Nimoy, John Jakes, Tad Williams, and Tom Clancy, Polgardy helped create and develop multiple story ideas that were licensed to Miramax, Alliance Entertainment, and ABC Television. He also wrote the critically acclaimed graphic novel adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" for BIG. In 2004, partnered with motion picture writer/producer/director Darin Scott, Polgardy co-created his own comic book publishing & feature film development company, CinemaGraphix Entertainment, where he has 10 different cinematic comic book projects in various stages of development. Television Writer/Producer/Director In 1998, Polgardy wrote, produced, and directed a number of successful, nationally syndicated television shows for Five Star Productions. His duties involved developing scripts and overseeing the coordination, production, and editing of “Today’s Environment”, hosted by Ed Begley, Jr. (“St. Elsewhere”), “Today’s Health”, hosted by Faith Daniels (NBC's “Dateline”) and “The Best of Wine and Food”, hosted by George Hamilton (“Love at First Bite”). Then, from 1999 to 2001, he was employed by TV Interactive as a senior producer and director of “.Com”, starring Mark Hamill, which aired on CNBC. He also produced and/or directed “.Com Kids”, also starring Hamill, “Elegance with Ivana”, starring Ivana Trump, “Women in Charge”, starring Nancy Glass, “First Priority”, starring Hunter Tylo and “Healthy Solutions”, starring Mariette Hartley. In 2001, for Price/Parker, Inc., he developed, produced, and directed “Identity”, a female-empowerment show hosted by Hunter Tylo that aired on The Learning Channel. Television Awards Over the past 10 years, Polgardy has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work, including various Gold and Platinum Telly and Aurora awards, but he is most proud of the Emmy he won for producing and directing a half-hour television special for the IRS in 2001. Feature Film Writer/Producer/Director A number of Polgardy's screenplays have been optioned for production in Hollywood. Smart Egg Pictures acquired “Skins” (co-written with Dale Schneck and director Armand Mastroianni), and “Hammerlock”, another script Polgardy co-authored, was put into development at Films Around the World. Polgardy's independently produced thriller, “Dark Dreams”, which he co-wrote and executive produced for DTJJ Productions, was shot and is now in post-production. In 2003, Polgardy produced Kenneth J. Hall's “The Halfway House”, for BV Entertainment, which had its world-premier screening at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival where it won the “Best of Fest” award. "Halfway House" currently can be seen on a number of U.S. pay television stations, including Showtime Extreme. And in 2005, Polgardy handled the Second Unit Director chores on “Death’s Door” for Creative Spark Entertainment. At Present Polgardy is developing two prime-time situation comedies with actor Jeff Conaway and the feature films “Briggs Park” for Olive Branch Productions, “The Harbinger” for Seekers Entertainment, and “Jake’s Wake” for SW Productions.
